An Analysis of Internet Content Delivery Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper analyzes four different content delivery systems from the arena of client-server oriented world-wide web, content delivery networks and peer-to-peer file sharing systems. The important features of peer-to-peer systems are symmetry among the peers (since they behave as both servers and clients) and scalability up to as many as millions of machines. Dynamic membership, wide-area network and heterogeneity of the participating systems in terms of their bandwidth, connectivity and performance are some of the distinguishing characteristics of peer-topeer systems. Such systems tend to be application specific. Some peer-to-peer systems may have a hierarchy among the members, for instance some peers in Kazaa are supernodes and maintain indexes for the content available at peers in the nearby neighborhood.

Content delivery has undergone a sea of changes in recent years. While even only ten years back the major delivery channels were television and radio broadcast, nowadays content is delivered digitally via the Internet or other electronic delivery channels. The engineering problem of delivering multimedia content through the Internet has received much attention by the research community. However...

متن کاملAn Architecture for Content Routing Support in the Internet
The primary use of the Internet is content distribution — the delivery of web pages, audio, and video to client applications — yet the Internet was never architected for scalable content delivery. The result has been a proliferation of proprietary protocols and ad hoc mechanisms to meet growing content demand. In this paper, we describe a content routing design based on name-based routing as pa...

The very success of the Internet is creating both the networking technology that lies at the Internet's core and the services that use it. In addition, the ossification of the Internet makes the introduction and deployment of new network technologies and services both difficult and costly. The future Internet architecture should preserve the features of best effort while offering differential q...
متن کاملQoS and Delivery Context in Rule-Based Edge Services
As the Internet grows, more and more content distribution networks are deploying services at the network edge to effectively perform content adaptation. In a wireless web environment where bandwidth resource is expensive, edge services requires information such as the Quality of Service (QoS) to perform optimal bandwidth adaptation. In addition, due to the diversification of wireless device acc...
